1980s Tokai TOM-150V Dreadnought Guitar

Overview: This is a guitar we worked-on for a friend of ours sometime back. He's since replaced this instrument with a very expensive old Martin, so it's now here for resale. I've taken new photos, a new video, and collected all its stats because of that.

Tokais (made in Japan) are excellent-quality instruments. This one, despite having ply back and sides, sounds remarkably similar to a mix of D-28 and D-18 tones and it looks like a D-28 as well. The cut, styling, and build quality is certainly getting there. It even has a volute at the back of the headstock and the neck shape and feel is almost a carbon copy of a '60s D neck.

Repairs included: This got a level/dress of the frets, had a previous light bridge shave, hairline crack repairs to the top (one on upper bout and one below the bridge), and setup. My last bit of work on it was to close the ends of the saddle slot and convert it into a drop-in saddle slot for ease of use. It's playing bang-on and ready to go. OH! We also installed a K&K Twin Spot pickup, so it's ready for gigging.

Condition notes: There are mild scuffs and scratches here and there and a little ghosting of the finish near the heel on the side. The back of the neck has some playwear and small nicks. It's original throughout save the replacement saddle (which, ironically, is one I pulled out of an old Martin and recut). As noted, there are a couple repaired cracks in the top. The bridge has been shaved previously (though it's still the height of a '70s Gibson bridge). A strap button was added to the back of the heel.

It comes with: It has a nice old hard case.
