1990s Danelectro U2 Rubber-Bridge Modded Semihollow Electric Guitar

Overview: I took this guitar in trade to help a guy procure an amp. I'm a fan of any sort of Danelectros and this is my favorite finish style from the late-'90s, Korean-made ones. It's a surf-green-burst into cream sort-of thing. This one has aged "just-so" and has small love-bites and nicks in the finish around the edges and the plastic pickguard has aged to a transparent yellow color that looks oh-so-good. It's a friendly guitar.

I've currently got it setup to do the "rubber bridge" thing with a radius-cut rubber saddle fit to the original bridge. The normal steel adjustable saddles are in a baggie and taped inside the control cavity so it can be swapped-back to regular use in a pinch, though I think the rubber-bridge setup gives it more of a fun, stand-out sound.

The rubber we use dampens the sustain a lot even when compared to other rubber bridges and it intonates on a straight line as well -- like a classical guitar saddle. Plugged-in and fingerpicked it has a bit of a marimba or thumb piano tone and flatpicked you get all of that snappy/slappy/pick-noise strummy stuff that's all over recent records. Heck, I whipped this one up this way to stick in my recording area, but now have so many traded-in, random electric guitars of my own to sort through that I just needed to start culling somewhere. It's been a busy Spring in trade-in land...

That said, my kids will be frustrated when this one is gone and happy if it stays. The color is great and they're all over it because of that! I like the neck a lot on this one, too -- it's been very stable in service since I acquired it and it's comfy as heck, especially for up-the-neck chords that I reach for with rubber-bridge guitars.

Repairs included: I replaced some replacement wonk locking tuners with older Grover-style ones, gave it a level/dress of the frets, fit the rubber saddle, cleaned it up, and set it up. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.

Condition notes: I've modded it to a rubber-bridge setup. It has a variety of small nicks and dings around the top edges and the plastic bits have faded and yellowed. The strap button was moved to the shoulder (and cut-off at the heel). The tuners are (better) replacements. Its original saddles are included and stuffed inside the guitar for access later.

It comes with: Sorry, no case.
