2010s National Resolectric Jr Solidbody Electric Resonator Guitar
Overview: I really do like these Resolectric Jr models. I owned a green one for a while and loved everything about it except for the fact that I just didn't have a band use for it at the time I owned it. While these have a midsy, bright, snappy acoustic quality to them and reduced volume compared to a properly-acoustic National, the sound is still inspiring and the acoustic volume is even good-enough to jam with other folks. I loved playing mine on the porch or down by the river because it was so easy and carefree to take places.
Plugged-in, it very-much has a hybrid sound. It's got a lot of that "old magnetic soundhole pickup" acoustic-plugged-in '60s thing going on but it does blend the metallic, twangy, sustained, ghost-note stuff from the resonator setup right into the sound. I think it sounds amazing for fingerpicking and can get a jump-blues or gypsy-jazz sort-of sound when flatpicked and given some juice. Also, because it's passive and simple, there are no batteries involved.
Repairs included: I seated the cone and biscuit, compensated the saddle for modern 3-wound, 3-plain stringing, and gave it a good setup. It's playing spot-on and ready to go. I can recompensate the saddle for wound G if desired. I always suggest nickel 11s on these unless you're planning to downtune a bunch, in which case nickel 12s will do better. It wants electric strings for the magnetic pickup.
