2020s Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin II Hollowbody Electric Guitar
Overview: This 5th Avenue is a nice rig from Canada's Godin. It's very-much jazzbox, ES-175-copycat in flavor but it does so in its own way -- with a cherry-burst satin finish and a shallower, more-modern cutaway. The rosewood fretboard and brown-pearl pickguard are nice aesthetic touches and the neck is quick an easy. I like the simplified 3-way plus master tone/volume controls as well -- I am absolutely not a fan of the overcomplicated, normal, Gibson 2x2 setup so it's good to see a practical touch, here.
Tonewise it's cleaner and clearer-sounding than I would have expected -- more like a mid-late '60s bucker sound -- and I enjoy the fresh breath of air that is. Usually, guitars intended for the jazzbox market are stuffed with bucker that are mildly-muddy or a little too hot to give them that fat, mellow tone right out of the box. I much prefer to retain sparkle and clarity and mellow it up at the amp instead if I need to.
Repairs included: I gave this a quick setup. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
