1962 Danelectro Guitarlin (Longhorn, Modified) Electric Guitar

Update 2026: I originally worked on this in 2020 and it came back for resale a while back and is now back in again as trade-bait. This time around I fit some vintage Kluson tuners to snazzy-up the look and replaced the ailing old ABR bridge with a fresh Gotoh on that does not creak or groan or buzz. That said, this guitar has been stable in service for as long as I've known it. Every time I've seen it over the years it's only needed new strings -- the setup has not changed at all on it in-between viewings! I'm now going to copy-and-paste (with minor alterations) from my original 2020 post...

Overview: The story on this one is that it was a New York guitar-shop owner's personal instrument. He'd modified it to house two '60s Gibson mini-humbuckers (which sound dog-gone good) and a Gibson wiring harness rather than the normal twin-lipstick-pickup configuration. I've gotta admit that he did a great job -- everything was installed nicely and cut well. The masonite was giving up the ghost a bit on the bridge adjuster shafts, but the guitar itself played pretty well and was rock-tastic right out of the gate.

It did need its fretboard fixed, however, as part of it was missing -- it'd been taken off because it got in the way of the previous owner's picking. It gets in the way of mine, too, after re-installing a board there, but I figured-out how to deal with my right hand after a few minutes of playing. Suffice to say... the fret access is insane on this thing! I absolutely love it. You can capo at 12 and have an "octave guitar" with a full board of frets. 32 frets of glory! Wild...

Repairs included: I replaced a bit of fretboard, did a board plane and refret with jumbo/pyramid wire, some minor setup-side work, and cleaning. This time around I replaced non-original Grover tuners with some period Klusons and fit a new, Gotoh ABR-style bridge. It's playing bang-on and ready to serve.

Does it look absolutely awesome? Oh my gosh, you bet. I have a huge thing for these Guitarlin/Longhorn shapes and this one is a looker...

It comes with: It's got a gigbag.
