1990s Fender FM-63S F-Style Archtop Mandolin
Overview: This is a slick-looking, all-carved, solid-woods instrument. I believe this to be a little earlier (judging by the label) than others I've seen online as it's a little different, too. I'm expecting it's a late '90s or early '00s model. This particular one was played a ton judging by the fretwear before my work on it. It was obviously loved! It has that poppy, midsy, choppy bluegrass sound and is comparable to a lower to mid-range Eastman in tone and feel. The slick inlay, nicely-cut "ribbing" on the center-back at the heel, and good-looking scroll and points give it an upscale personality, though.
Still, it's sprayed in a thicker gloss finish that screams "90s import" when you see it. It's durable, though, and means this instrument still looks rather on the new side despite being a little older and played with gusto.
Repairs included: I gave it a level/dress of the frets, slightly recut the bridge to give it more adjustment room at the saddle, and set it up with a fresh set of strings. It's playing spot-on and ready to serve.
