2010s Cole Clark FL2AC Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

Overview: I thought that I'd posted on this guitar when we worked on it last, but I guess not! This is the only Cole Clark instrument I've had through the shop over the years and, unfortunately for the owner, he's moved-on to more traditional-style instruments so this one is now here and for sale.

These are made in Australia and use Australian woods. The top on this one is solid bunya (which sounds along the lines of spruce) and its back, sides, and neck appear to be Queensland maple. Said "maple" has nothing to do with normal maple as far as I can tell, but tonally gives a bit more of a clear-sounding, mahogany-like, cherry-like sound to my ears.

The design of these instruments is pretty interesting and quirky and this one has a few features I like. The adjustable saddle is easy to use and integrated well. The neck is quick and easy. The satin finish means the guitar looks good even with a bit of use in it. I like the odd bridge shape and the pointy pickguard recalls catalog guitars from the '50s and '60s. The back is quirky in that it has bracing but the bracing is actually fitted into channels cut into the back (the back has a sort-of wavy shape to its inside that "hugs" the braces in place). I'm not sure about the reasoning but the guitar does have a punchy, forward voice that's very crisp and even. It sits well in a jam environment.

Repairs included: We'd previously reglued a damaged side seam and back crack (pictured). Due to the way the back is shaped on the inside, I couldn't fit cleats properly, though the crack has remained tight and stable since repair about a year and a half ago. This also got a bit of cleaning and a setup at the same time. It's remained exactly the same in service and arrived back here just the way it left.

Condition notes: It has a repaired back crack (pictured) on the lower bout and a repaired side seam near the same area as well. There are various mild-medium scratches here and there throughout the finish as this guy got a good amount of gigging use. I may have done a little level and dress job on the frets in the past as the frets are all in good shape and only have a tiny amount of wear.

It comes with: Sorry, no case.
