2025 Dingwall SP1 Super P Fanned-Fret Electric Bass Guitar
Overview: Dingwall basses are well-known as high-end, performance-oriented instruments. Their "Ready-to-Play" line (of which this SP-1 is a part of) uses Indonesian-made parts and final assembly/setup/adjustments/fittings done in Canada. The result is a high-end instrument that's not in the painfully high-end price range. It's a solidly-built, cleanly-built, and well-thought-out instrument with a ridiculous amount of tonal options and a futuristic feel despite a retro-looking body aesthetic.
The fanned fret design also keeps each note strong and full in its range while maintaining a better tension balance string to string. Each of the notes feels lively and similar in output compared to standard fretboards. There's a lot to like about it and I found myself getting used to the spacing pretty fast. I wouldn't want to play a gig with it where I had to sing and play without at least a week's practice under my belt, though, as it is a little bit of a shift to get used to.
Repairs included: I only had to barely set it up as it arrived almost perfectly dialed-in (I just needed to tweak intonation for the flats as opposed to the rounds it probably originally came with). It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
