1970s Mossman Brazilian Rosewood Dreadnought Guitar (D-35-style)

Overview: This is a well-loved but gorgeous example of an early Mossman. I'm pretty sure this is a very-late '60s or early '70s one (the label is missing) and it has a D-35-style back and sides featuring solid Brazilian rosewood. Pearl inlay adorns the top edge, soundhole rosette, and back strips. It's like a "getting to Style 42" decorative mix.

It has a punchy, forward sound that would cut nicely in a jam and it looks the biz, too. The neck is quick and easy and it's a solid player. Mossman guitars are highly-regarded in the vintage-looking bluegrass and folk scene and some 6000 or so instruments were built over the life of the company. This one has a bolt-on neck with an adjustable truss rod with access at the neckblock. The build is high-quality throughout.

Repairs included: Ancel gave this a neck reset, level/dress of the frets, a new bone saddle with good compensation, some re-repair to old crack repairs and additional cleats, cleaning, and setup work. It plays spot-on and is ready to go.

Condition notes: The bridge is an old replacement (we surmise) that Ancel dressed-up nicely to give it a fancier look. The saddle is a replacement, too, and the tuners and pickguard are as well. It has a variety of old crack repairs (and some new repairs) all with reinforcement. The sides, in particular, have longer old crack repairs to them. There's a couple hairline cracks on the lower-bout top that are repaired. The back has a few hairlines that are fixed, too. The finish has weather-checked throughout and shows scuffs, scratches, and small nicks and dings here and there. The finish has aged/yellowed a fair bit over time, giving the top a nice golden color.

It comes with: It has an old hard case.
