1985 Vicente Carrillo Classical Guitar

This is a nice Spanish classical guitar that fell on hard times. It arrived here with a bad neck angle, saddle in the wrong place anyway, and a neck that was warped like crazy. Because it's an all-solid instrument, we chatted with the owner about whether the work was worth it and he grabbed it for... $20... so it was!

Jacobi planed the fretboard, refretted it with modern, not-quite-jumbo stock, and set it up. I reprofiled the bridge and drilled holes to give it "string-through" mounting. The "saddle" is now just a shaped part of the bridge itself, much like on vintage ukuleles. Where there's a will, there's a way! We did not want to get into resetting a classical-style neck joint considering all the other work that had to be put into this...

While it's not going to win beauty awards at the bridge, it's now quite a killer player and it sounds very good, with full, clean, round notes. It sounds somewhere between a flamenco and a classical guitar in tone.
