2000s James Stagnitto "Stag" Acoustic Bass Guitar

Overview: James Stagnitto is a builder out of New Jersey and his work shows-up on the East Coast now and then but most of it seems to be guitars. This is the only bass I've seen, yet, and in form it's like a mix of one of those old Martin B-1 acoustic basses and '90s Guild acoustic basses. It's better quality than either of those and has more volume and cut, too. It also looks great -- ready for your next, "live and unplugged!" gig. It had a non-functional pickup in it when it arrived, too, and I replaced it with a K&K pickup which sounds tops and natural plugged-in.

I'm guessing this one is earlier in his build stream as it has a few quirky features -- a bolt-on neck and a bridge with the saddle placement not 100% correct as it was built. Someone had done a bit of work on it in the past but they adjusted the neck angle poorly. This time around I've solved for these flaws and, while it has a few visual quirks, it now plays like a champ and is ready for the road.

Repairs included: I re-reset the neck, glossed-over some finish goop at the sides of the heel from the last "reset" work, added a couple of extra bolts at the neckblock for firmer attachment (not pretty, but very functional), recut the saddle slot, made a new bone saddle, converted from pin-bridge to string-through at the bridge, and set it up. Jake Too leveled and dressed the frets. It's now playing spot-on and is ready to roll.

Condition notes: The bridge has been modified and, when viewed closely, is not as pretty as it was when new, but it now plays in tune. There's a bit of finish disturbance/fill at the sides of the heel. There are mild scuffs and scratches here and there in the finish. Still, overall, it looks nice!

It comes with: It's got an old hard case.
