New Album: The Dread Painters of Charon
I have a brand-new "space instrumental album" out and it's Episode 5 in a series of 7 that I've been working on over the years. This one is titled "The Dread Painters of Charon" and follows the adventures of Our Gallant Crew across the solar system. This time they're investigating a nefarious invasion plot on Pluto's moon Charon...
You can listen to it and download it for free from SoundCloud (above) but it's also now available to stream from pretty much everywhere -- Apple, Spotify, you name it. Just look up my name and enjoy!
The other 4 albums in the series released so far are The Mystic Dreamers of Callisto (2026), The Mad Electroids of Io (2022), The Fire Handlers of Mercury (2022), and The Space Mermaids of Europa (2021). There's an additional EP that's related to the Fire Handlers narrative called The Hometown Heroes of Raditladi Crater (2020).
For those interested in the recording techniques... most are 4-track recordings -- baritone electric rubber bridge guitar on rhythm, plugged-in ukulele on rhythm, bass, and then a lead instrument that's either electric guitar or electric mandolin. I then sometimes double lead lines or add a 5th track that's extra uke background sounds through effects.
The effect I used most on this recording for flavor is a Boss OC-5 octave pedal -- often going "down and up" without the middle signal to make faux-organ, vintage synth sort-of sounds. Additionally, while you're hearing plenty of room reverb, you're also hearing a bit of rotary cabinet sim, chorus, and echo here and there.
