2026 Brad Sourdiffe (Vermont) 4-String Electric Mandolin
Overview: I'm pretty tough on electric mandolins as I'm a fan of the genre but this one is pretty dang hip! Friend of the shop Brad hails from "the other side of the mountains" from us and he's brought a number of his homebrew instruments in for sale. This one sounds and plays like a champ and has a delightfully Mosrite-like body shape.
At its heart is a specifically-made electric mandolin humbucking pickup with polepieces that allow for better string-to-string balance than traditional emando pickups. The body is flamed maple over mahogany and has cherry burl at the wiring backplate and headstock. The neck is flamed maple with an ebony stripe and it appears to have a mahogany headstock graft. Simple abalone dots and gold hardware complete the look.
Is it ready to jam? It's ready to jam!
Repairs included: I gave it the very slightest level/dress of the frets, a restring to more-typical electric mandolin gauges, and a very mild adjustment of the setup. It's playing bang-on and ready to go.
