1960s Kay K5915 Semihollow Electric Bass Guitar

My friend Steve owns this bass and, thankfully, brought it up when he visited on Tuesday. My guy Ancel did a a fret level/dress on it and gave it a good setup. He also fit some repro-style StewMac (openback Kluson-style) tuners which greatly improved tuning stability and looks -- the original, single-unit Japanese tuners these come with most of the time are simply a bear to use.

As a result, it's now playing on-the-dot. Wanna hear one? Click here for a post (with a video) of a same-model bass I fixed-up for my friend Rick...

These basses are highly sought-after in the vintage market and anyone who's played one knows why -- they're undeniably cool instruments and have a really distinct, thumpy, bumpy sort-of voice that suits just about any "retro" form of amplified music and will blend nicely, even, with folk and acoustic acts.
