1980s Time "Salvaged Green" Electric Guitar

While both the last Time guitars (see here and see here) through the shop were husks rescued-into-service via brainstorming with my buddy Rick, this one came to the shop already cobbled-together in its current format. It was also a "spray shop rescue" from the original Time factory... but not kitted-out by myself.

It did need a bit of love, though -- it got a bad locking-nut install removed in favor of "free-n-easy," a new truss-rod cover, new truss nut (can you believe that this was played for years with no nut on the truss...?), a bit of re-soldering work, cleaning, fret level/dress, and setup. Unfortunate mistakes in the past include some blown-out tuner holes, the savaged behind-the-nut area, and a bizarro-but-kinda-fun clear cover for the control cavity.

I inwardly reject metal-ish, psychedelic-ish guitars like this, but my hands do love the light weight and comfortable curves of the neck into its joint with the body. I guess it's sort-of an offset SuperStrat shape? So confusing...

The finish is a deep teal metallic that's finish-crackled here and there in just the right ways. It's very much a "this looks like a color on a hummingbird" color -- in-between an emerald tone and something a little more deep-blue-green.

As far as the pickups -- I don't have any clue as to what these are offhand (I'm sure someone out there knows), but they have a million polepieces... presumably to keep output regulated as one bends the strings. Tone is very-much '80s SuperStrat in vibe -- warm and smooth at the neck, a little bit more sparkle in the middle, and a bit of a quacky-warm Strat-bucker dig in the bridge position.

It's wired for 3 on/off switches and master volume and tone.

It's got a 25 1/2" scale and a medium-C neck shape with 1 11/16" nut width. The board feels about like a 10" radius.

Carvin I think set the tone for the bazillion pole pieces, I like them but the old ones which I think sounded better are hard to find. Now the clear control cavity cover just begs to have some one find a cool old Creature from the Black Lagoon rubber toy and put him (her?) in there to creep out the victims of shred.....

Carvin M22 pickups of the 1980s were relentlessly advertised in guitar mags. The greatest thing since sliced bread. Never lose your big three fret bends again! The String is always over a pole piece! Eleven of them! Wow!

Thanks for the info, guys!

I TOTALLY agree there should be something lovely inside that cavity, hahaha. I almost stuck a fake snake in it...

Don't know much, if anything, about electric guitars, but, yeah, I love that color 8^)
